Group skills

Things a chat does together with askr: settle an argument, split a bill, run a quiz, write a card or plan a trip. Everyone gives their part, privately where it matters, and askr brings it together for the chat.

Where they are

Group skills is a chip in the row over the message box, beside Catch me up, Ask privately and Poll. It is there once a chat has someone else in it, or invited. It is not offered in a chat of your own, to someone only watching a public chat, or in askr Anon.

The sheet lists the skills in five groups. Anything under way that has no message in the chat, such as a surprise card, is at its top, under Under way here.

Try typing

  • @askr settle this: is a tomato a fruit?
  • @askr split this
  • @askr quiz us on photosynthesis: the light reactions, the Calvin cycle, and where each one happens

Attach one photo of the receipt to the message that splits it. A quiz started this way has five questions, and its notes can be a photo of a page instead.

Settle and decide

Settle this
For an argument. askr shows the price first. Then three models from three different makers judge it, each on its own, with a web search for sources, and askr writes one verdict that keeps what is fact apart from what is opinion and says how many of them agree. The verdict is askr's answer in the chat, and the card under it shows each model's own answer. Leave the box empty and askr reads the newest messages for the disagreement, or say what to settle. The person who asked can Publish as a page.
Settle this fairly
For two people. Each gives their side privately. askr sums each side up for its author, who confirms it is fair to what they said or changes their words. Only when both have confirmed do both see the two summaries side by side, with what they share and two or three small things to try. askr takes no side and gives no verdict.
Find common ground
For a bigger disagreement. Everyone writes their view privately. askr drafts one statement the whole group could accept, each person says I can accept this or why they cannot yet, and askr revises it. Everyone sees the statement and how many can accept it, never who wrote what. Whoever opened it, or the person who started the chat, posts it.
Help me choose
Post two to four options. askr compares them side by side, with a web search for each, the prices it found and who each one suits, and recommends none. The chat votes on a poll whose results stay hidden until the deadline you pick, from an hour to a week, and then askr says what the chat chose.

Money between you

Everything in this group is real money between you, in any currency, settled however you pay each other. askr only keeps track. askr credits never move, and askr never holds, signs or sends anything.
Split this
Snap the receipt, or type the items in. askr reads it into a list, and everyone taps Mine on what they had and Shared on what the table shared. A shared dish is split between the people who shared it, and tax, service and tip are split in proportion to what each person had. The photo stays beside the items so anyone can check them, and the card says when the items do not add up to the receipt's own total. Add to the ledger records who owes the payer what.
The chat's ledger
Who owes whom, one balance for each pair. Either of the two can Mark as settled, and so can the person who started the chat. Add something owed records a debt between you and someone else by hand. Draft a reminder has askr write the message nobody wants to write, for you to change and send, or not. Only the person owed can let a debt go.
A savings circle
A tanda, a chama or an arisan, for 2 to 60 people: who is in and in what order, the amount, how often, whose turn it is to take the pot, and who has paid this round. Remind everyone puts a message in the chat with whose turn it is and who is still to pay.
Draft a multisig proposal
askr writes a payment from the group's multisig in plain words, with a checklist for each signer, for you to propose and sign in your own wallet app. The addresses, the amount and the chain on the card are exactly what was typed and checked, never askr's own words.

Play and learn

Quiz us
Paste notes or snap a page, and pick 3, 5 or 10 questions. Each question is askr's message with numbered options, and reacting with a number is your answer. Whoever started it reveals each answer, with why and who got it. The scores come at the end, with the chat's study streak: the days in a row it finished a quiz. Explain the one we missed has askr explain a question people got wrong. A quiz can also run with hidden answers and a timer for each question.
Study together
The maker of a finished quiz can publish it as a question set for an exam: GCSE, A level, AP, SAT, IB, JEE, NEET or Gaokao. Anyone signed in finds sets by exam and subject and can quiz their chat on one. Join your exam's league, and every question you get right in a quiz for that exam is a point in that week's table.
Story time
Give a premise and say who takes turns. askr opens the story, each turn is that person's own message, and askr carries the story on and names whose turn is next. After one to three rounds, or when whoever started it says so, askr writes the ending and a title.
A challenge
Steps, push-ups, a 5k, over one to twelve weeks. Everyone says privately where they start and aims the same step higher, so a beginner and a marathoner score the same for the same progress. Your numbers stay yours. The board shows the scores of the people who share theirs, and counts the rest.

For someone

A card or a toast
For a friend, in the chat or not. Everyone adds a line, a story or a voice note. askr weaves them into one card, or a speech to read out, that credits each line to its writer, and whoever started it posts it in the chat. With Keep it a surprise on, nothing appears in the chat and the person it is for sees none of it until it is posted. Under the posted card, A sung version makes a song of it, priced first.
The chat's wishlist
Everyone's wishes in one place, added by themselves or by a friend, with prices askr looks up on the web. I'll get this tells the others, and never the person the wish is for.
Secret Santa
For three people or more. Pick who is in, who should not draw each other, a budget and the swap day. The names are drawn by askr's own code, with no AI involved, and each person is told theirs privately. Nobody else ever sees it, the organiser included. A pot everyone pledges to, if you want one, goes into the chat's ledger.

Home, care and plans

Home board
Paste a school email or snap a flyer, and askr turns it into dates and things to do, suggesting an owner only when the message names someone in the chat. Anyone takes a task with I'll do this. It also keeps a fair weekly chore rota: say the chores, how big each is and how often, and they are shared out so the effort evens out.
Care board
For a family looking after someone. A handover, spoken as a voice note or typed, is tidied into what happened, what was given, what to watch and what is next, and posted in the chat. Beside it are the medicines now and one list of questions for the next appointment. askr adds no advice of its own.
Plan something
Each person says what works for them, a budget and the days they can do, and only they and askr see it. The card shows who has answered and which days suit everyone. Find options that fit everyone returns up to three, each with a rough cost for each person, and none over anyone's budget. The chat votes with the results hidden, the winner becomes the plan, people take its steps with I'll do this, and costs are shared into the chat's ledger.

What stays private

  • Your part is shown only to you: a line for a card, a plan's budget and days, your side of a disagreement, your view, a challenge's numbers, your Secret Santa match.
  • The chat sees the result, and counts along the way. A plan's card names who has not answered yet, and a Secret Santa card names who pledged to the pot.
  • In a disagreement askr reads what people wrote without names: two sides as Person 1 and Person 2 in an order drawn at random, and many views cut to the same length in a random order.
  • A Settle this fairly is seen by the two people in it and nobody else, the person who started the chat included. Nothing of it is posted, and both find it under Group skills. Who used what lists that an answer was paid for, never its words.
  • Someone only watching a public chat reads the messages a skill posts, and sees none of its cards.

What it costs

  • Each thing askr works out is paid like an @askr message in that chat, by whoever started it: from the chat's credit, or from their own balance where each person pays for their own. Who pays.
  • The price shows before anything runs for Settle this, Settle this fairly, Help me choose, Story time, a wishlist's price check, a plan's options and each draft of a common statement.
  • Reading a receipt, making a quiz, weaving a card, reading an email onto the Home board, a care handover, a reminder and a multisig proposal are one answer each, and the card shows what it cost afterwards.
  • Free, with no AI involved: claiming items, the ledger, Secret Santa, a challenge, a savings circle, question sets and exam leagues, voting, and adding your part to anything.
  • A guest can start something that costs only where Guests can ask askr is on in that chat.
  • If the price cannot be paid, nothing runs and nothing is charged. A skill that stops partway says so after ten minutes.
