Notifications
askr tells you when a chat needs you: an invite, your @, a reply, your turn in a game, or an answer that landed while you were away. Where the notes show, how to get them by email, push or Telegram, and how to quiet them.

The bell
Signed in, the bell is in the bar at the top of the app, with the number of new notes on it. Tap it and your notifications open, the newest first. Each row names the chat and says what happened, such as "@maya mentioned you" with the first words of the message, and opens the chat there. Opening a note marks it as seen.
- Mark all as seen clears the count.
- See all opens the whole list at heyaskr.ai/chat/notifications, and Settings opens your notification settings.
- In Chats, each chat shows how many notes are waiting for you in it. Opening the chat marks them as seen.
- The list holds the last 30 days. With nothing waiting it says You are all caught up.
- News of what you made on Explore arrives under the same bell. Your maker page, sales and earnings.
What you are told
- Invites
- Someone invites you to a chat.
- Mentions of you
- A message names your @.
- Replies to you
- Someone replies to one of your messages.
- askr answered
- Your @askr message finished while you were away: the answer, or the picture, clip or sound it asked for. This one works in a chat of your own too.
- Your turn
- A game, a story or a plan in a chat is waiting on you alone: a round of a game everyone else has answered, your turn in Telephone or Story time, a plan only you have not answered, a roast battle or Settle this fairly waiting for you, your cup match starting. A voice room you said you are coming to tells you ten minutes before it starts.
- Weekly digest
- Your week, on Monday. Your week.
- You are never told about what you did yourself, and nothing arrives for a chat while you have it open.
- Nothing comes from someone you blocked. A chat you muted sends nothing but its place in your week.
- A private message, such as a catch-up or a private answer, tells only the person it is for, and its note never shows the words.
- When a message is edited, its note shows the new words. When it no longer names you, or was removed after a report, the note goes.
- A Your turn note never goes to whoever passed the turn on, and it is taken back when the turn is over without you. A game askr wrote for the chat sends none: whose turn it is lives inside the game.
- askr Anon chats and askr Community send none.
Email, push and Telegram
- Off until you turn it on, in Settings or with Email me what I miss under your notifications. You get one short email for everything waiting, never one for each message. It waits fifteen minutes, so you can see things in the app first, and comes at most every three hours. Your account needs an email address.
- Push
- One notification for each chat, the newest taking the place of the last, on the phones and computers where you turned notifications on. You turn them on for a device in Chev settings, under Connections, Notifications. Chev.
- Telegram
- One message for everything waiting, to the Telegram you connected to Chev. Until you connect it, the switch says so.
Push and Telegram start on, email starts off, and each has its switch in Settings. A note more than a day old is not sent anywhere: it waits under the bell.
Quiet hours
Nothing leaves askr from 22:00 to 08:00 in your own time zone: an email, a push or a Telegram message waits until the hours end. The bell fills as usual. Change the hours, or turn Quiet hours off, in Settings. askr learns your time zone from your browser.
Your week
On Monday morning, from 09:00 your time, askr lists the chats you muted or have not opened for a week that other people wrote in: how many new messages, from whom, and the way back in. The five busiest come with a short summary. It sits on top of your notifications for a week, and reaches you by email, push and Telegram as you chose.
Settings, for every chat and for one
- Settings, Account, Notifications has a switch for each kind of note, for Email, Push, Telegram and Quiet hours.
- Each shared chat's sheet has Notifications too, with the same kinds for that chat alone.
Mute a chat
Mute this chat, under Just for you in the chat's sheet, stops it counting as unread and sends you nothing. Everything is still there when you open it. A muted chat keeps its place in Your week unless you turn Weekly digest off in that chat's Notifications.
What it costs
Nothing. No note is charged to anyone, and askr pays for the summaries in Your week.
Still stuck?
A person on the askr team answers you on Telegram. Or ask askr itself.
