Pay with any coin
Pay for credits with a coin from your own wallet on Robinhood Chain. You see what you get, and every cost, before you pay.
Tokens, under Crypto in Add credits, is the way to pay with a coin from your own wallet, beside the major coins and card. It takes coins on Robinhood Chain: ETH, USDG, $ASKR, Robinhood stock tokens, and any other coin with a market there. Your own wallet sells the coin for USDG, a dollar coin, and the dollars go straight to askr in the same transaction, so askr never holds your coin. You are credited the dollars that arrive, less askr's fee. It works on Robinhood Chain only, for now.
How to pay
- Open Add credits, then TokensTap your balance, or Add credits wherever you see it. Tap Crypto, then Tokens. The sheet remembers it for next time.
- Connect your walletThe wallets in your browser are listed by name, such as MetaMask or Rabby: tap yours. WalletConnect is for a wallet app on your phone, such as Robinhood Wallet. Connecting asks for no signature. The tokens your wallet holds on Robinhood Chain show straight away, most valuable first, with what each is worth in credit.
- Pick a coinTap one of your tokens, or search any coin by its ticker, such as NVDA, its name, or its contract address. Each result shows the coin's name, its short address with Copy, its liquidity and how old its market is. A verified coin carries a badge, such as Robinhood stock token or $ASKR. You can search and read a quote before you connect.
- Enter an amountHow much of the coin to sell, in dollars ($10, $25, $50, $100 or any amount) or in the coin's own units. A coin picked from your tokens starts on all you hold of it; Max fills that in again. For ETH it keeps a little back for the network fee.
- Read the quoteaskr test-sells that amount on Robinhood Chain and shows what you get first, such as ≈ $98.97 of credit, and the least you can get, then the safety check. Price details lists each cost, and opens by itself when the price is poor. It refreshes every 15 seconds.
- Tap Pay and confirmThe button names the amount, such as Pay 0.437 NVDA. ETH and USDG take one confirm. Any other coin usually takes two: an approval for this exact amount, never more, then the payment. A wallet that can do both at once asks only once. A browser wallet on another network is asked to switch to Robinhood Chain first.
- Wait for the creditsThey land once the sale is confirmed on Robinhood Chain, usually within seconds, and the sheet says what was added and with which coin, such as Added $5.26 with PONS. Your activity lists it the same way. You can close the sheet: the payment carries on either way.
What it costs
The quote shows every cost before you pay:
- askr's fee
- 1% of the dollars the sale brings in, and at least $0.05. askr takes it by crediting less, and the quote shows it in dollars. Credit is rounded down to the cent.
- The coin's own tax
- Some coins keep a share of every sale. The test sale measures it.
- Pool fees and spread
- What the markets that buy the coin keep.
- Price impact
- A bigger sale moves the price against you. It grows with the amount, and shrinks where the market is deep.
- Network fee
- Paid by you, in ETH on Robinhood Chain, usually a few cents. It is not taken from your credit.
For example, you sell NVDA worth $100.00. The sale brings in $99.97 of USDG, askr's 1% is $1.00, and $98.97 lands on your balance. Below $5 the fee is the $0.05 minimum, so a sale that brings in $4.00 credits $3.95.
You get is what should land. At least is the floor your wallet signs: if the sale would bring in less, it does not go through, and only the network fee is spent. If the price falls by more than half a percent between the quote and Pay, askr shows a fresh quote instead, and you decide again.
The safety check
Before you connect, askr test-sells your amount of the coin on Robinhood Chain from a stand-in wallet, and again from your own wallet once you connect. Nothing is signed or spent for the test. The banner above the quote says what it found:
- Green: Good to pay
- The market takes little of the coin's value. The banner says how much, and what askr's fee is.
- Amber: Expensive or Careful
- 3% or more of the coin's value is lost to its tax, pool fees and price impact, or the coin looks risky: its first market is under a day old, the market holds under $10,000, no market price was found for it, or a corporate action such as a split is pending on a stock token. You can still pay.
- Red: This coin can't be used
- Pay stays off, and the banner says why, with a code. For example: it copies a verified coin's name or ticker, no market was found for it, the test sale failed, its issuer paused it or blocked your wallet, a quarter or more of its value would be lost, it keeps half or more of every sale as tax, the payment would credit under $2 or over $10,000, or your wallet holds too little of it or no ETH for the network fee.
askr's fee is not part of the amber and red figures: it always has its own line. Every code is on Error codes, W920 to W939.
Limits
- A payment credits at least $2 and at most $10,000, counted after askr's fee and the market's costs.
- Up to three payments can be in progress at once: waiting to be sent, sent, or waiting for a check.
- Once you tap Pay, your wallet has ten minutes to send the payment. After that, get a new quote.
- Robinhood Chain only, for now.
After you pay
- The sheet shows what was credited, such as +$98.97 of credit, with what you paid, the dollars after the swap and askr's fee. View on the explorer opens the transaction.
- A receipt goes to your email if your account has one, with the same figures, the processing fee and a link to the transaction.
- Settings, Credits lists it under Activity as Added with any coin.
- It counts as credit you bought and gets the deposit bonus. It can be sent to another @ after a day, like a crypto top-up (the bonus never can), and whoever invited you gets their 10%.
- Like any payment on chain, it cannot be reversed once it is sent.
If something goes wrong
The swap didn't go through
The price moved past your limit, so the sale was undone on chain. Nothing was sold and askr took nothing; only the network fee was spent. Get a new quote and pay again.
It says the price moved
The price fell by more than half a percent between the quote and Pay, so askr shows a fresh quote instead of sending anything. Check the new figure and tap Pay again.
I said no in my wallet
Nothing was sent. If you had already approved, the approval stays on chain for that exact amount only, and nothing was sold or charged. Tap Pay: carry on to send the payment, or Stop here.
It has not landed
Most payments land within seconds of the sale. After ten minutes on chain without a credit, the sheet says so, and askr is already checking. Still nothing after 30 minutes? Message support with code W932 and the transaction.
It needs a quick check
Now and then a payment arrives in a way a person checks before it is credited. There is nothing to do: askr credits it or contacts you.
It expired
A payment not sent within ten minutes is closed, and nothing is charged. Get a new quote. If you did send it, it is still credited once askr sees it on chain.
It asks for ETH
Every transaction on Robinhood Chain costs a small network fee in ETH, about $0.03, and your wallet has none there. Send a little ETH to the wallet on Robinhood Chain, then try again.
Paying with a coin is paused
While USDG, the dollar coin payments settle in, trades under $1, new payments wait. A payment already sent is still credited as usual. Try again later, or add credits by crypto or card.
