Voice in a chat
Play any game out loud, with askr reading its lines and you answering by voice, or meet in a voice room: one speaker at a time, askr as the host you hear, and a recording kept for everyone.
Play a game by voice
- Turn on Play by voiceIn Play a game, pick a game and turn the switch on. Its hint says about how much voice adds to the game. Typed, say "out loud": "@askr let's play trivia about 90s films out loud".
- Listenaskr reads every line it says in the game, in one of its own voices. Listen to askr turns the sound on for you, and Turn askr's voice off stops it.
- Answer out loudUnder the round's card, tap Answer by voice, then Hold to answer. Your words become your answer, exactly as if you had typed them. In trivia, say the letter or the answer's own words. Typing still works.
- Your voice answers are recorded and turned into words. The clip is kept beside your answer for you alone, for a week, and you can delete it sooner. Nobody else can open it.
- When askr is not sure which of two answers it heard, it says the two back to you and picks neither.
- Games by voice are not offered in askr Community.
Voice rooms
Voice rooms, under Do something together, Talk in the + sheet, opens the list: what is coming, when in your own time, and who is coming.
- Trivia
- askr reads each question, and the first hand answers out loud. Ten questions.
- Rap battle
- A lineup, a minute each on the floor, and askr judges the verses over three rounds.
- Open floor
- askr gives the floor in order, and answers when someone asks it something.
- Schedule a roomPick the Format, a Name, when it Starts, up to 30 days ahead, its Length, from 15 minutes to two hours, and askr's voice.
- Read the priceIt shows before you schedule: about so much for the room, for askr's lines read out, its questions and verdicts, and every clip heard.
- Tell the chataskr posts the room and its time. Everyone can tap I'm coming.
- The person who started the chat schedules rooms, and anyone in it once they turn on Anyone here can schedule voice rooms. A guest cannot.
- In the ten minutes before a room starts, a chip over the message box counts down to it. People who said they are coming are also told while they have askr open, shortly before it starts and when it is live.
- Ten minutes before a room starts, the people who said they are coming and do not have the chat open get a note, under the bell and wherever their notifications go: "Friday quiz starts at 19:00. You said you are coming." It is a Your turn note in your settings. askr Community's rooms remind in the app only. Notifications.
- A chat has one live room at a time, and up to ten waiting.
In the room
- I understand, join takes you in. The notice says the room is recorded, and you accept it once before you raise a hand or speak. Listening needs no yes.
- Raise your hand. askr gives the floor in order, one speaker at a time, and keeps time: a minute on the floor, and fifteen seconds to answer a trivia question.
- Hold to talk while the floor is yours. One clip a turn: it is heard, posted as your message in the chat's Voice rooms thread, and played for everyone in order. Pass gives your turn up.
- askr speaks only on its turn. It opens the room, gives the floor, asks the questions, says who is right, judges and keeps the score. On an open floor, begin your clip with askr's name to ask it something, and askr takes the next turn.
- Whoever scheduled the room and the person who started the chat host it. A host can Give the floor to someone, take it from whoever has it, Mute a speaker, move the room on with Next, and End the room.
- A trivia room ends after its ten questions and a battle after its three rounds, whatever length was picked. An open floor runs to its time.
The recording
- Every room is kept as its recording: every clip and every line askr said, in order, with the words. Recording, in Voice rooms, plays it.
- Delete my clip takes your clip out of the recording and out of the chat, for everyone. Its message then says that you deleted it.
- A clip is a message like any other. It can be reported, and clips from someone you blocked are not played for you.
- askr's voices are its own ready-made ones. The person who started the chat picks one under askr's voice in this chat, and askr never copies anyone's voice here.
Who can listen
- Someone watching a public chat can listen, and joins the chat to speak.
- A guest listens too, and keeps their seat with a name and a password to speak.
- In askr Community the askr team schedules the rooms and askr pays for them. Anyone can listen, signed in or not, and speaking follows the Community's own rules.
What voice costs
- Voice adds a reading for each line askr says, and the hearing of each clip. A game has it in the price in its start line, and a room shows its price before it is scheduled.
- A room's readings and askr's own work are paid by whoever scheduled it, and hearing a clip by whoever spoke it. In a game, whoever started it pays for the readings and for hearing every player's answers.
- Each pays as for an @askr message: from the chat's credit, or from their own balance in a chat of their own and where each person pays for their own. Who pays.
- A clip with no words in it costs nothing, and neither does one askr could not hear. Listening is free.
- When a game, a trivia room or a battle cannot pay for askr's next step it pauses and says so, and Resume picks it up once there is credit.
- An open floor stops askr answering questions once the room has spent the top of the price it showed. The floor stays open.
